The Art Model’s Handbook

Tue Jun 9, 2009, 12:41 PM
I have written a book called The Art Model’s Handbook: The Naked Truth about Posing for Art Classes and Fine Artists. It is available through Amazon.com [link]

There are many courses and books to teach people how to draw, but art models don’t get much instruction. They tend to learn through trial and error.

Figurative art is a creative collaboration, so I present both the model’s and the artist’s point of view. Several artists (including a few dA members) are quoted on such topics as why they draw figures and what constitutes an interesting pose.

I think this book could be a bridge between artists and models, providing insights into each other’s role. When the artist and model are on the same page, the session is more productive and inspiring.

The book is illustrated with drawings, paintings, sculpture, and fine art photography (including some by dA members) to demonstrate terms, and simply to show a variety of styles.

More information can be found here:

Thanks to Rie Shibazaki for taking the time to review the book in her dA journal:
